Description
Hedy Lamarr, born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, was an Austrian-born American actress and inventor. She was born on November 9, 1914, in Vienna, Austria-Hungary (now Austria), and passed away on January 19, 2000, in Casselberry, Florida, USA. Lamarr achieved fame as a Hollywood actress during the Golden Age of cinema, starring in numerous films from the late 1930s through the 1950s.
Lamarr began her acting career in Europe, starring in German and Czechoslovakian films before attracting the attention of Hollywood studios. She gained international acclaim for her role in the controversial Czech film "Ecstasy" (1933), which featured her in nude scenes and caused a sensation upon its release.
In Hollywood, Lamarr starred in a variety of films, including historical epics, romantic dramas, and thrillers. Some of her notable films include "Algiers" (1938), "Boom Town" (1940), "Samson and Delilah" (1949), and "Moulin Rouge" (1952).
Despite her success as an actress, Lamarr's most enduring legacy may be her contributions to technology and science. During World War II, Lamarr and composer George Antheil developed a frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication system, intended to help the Allied forces thwart Axis jamming of torpedo guidance systems. Their invention, patented in 1942, laid the groundwork for modern wireless communication technologies, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
In recognition of her groundbreaking work, Lamarr was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.
Hedy Lamarr remains an iconic figure in both the worlds of cinema and technology, celebrated for her beauty, talent, and ingenuity. Her remarkable life and contributions continue to inspire and fascinate people around the world.

About the artist:
Sergio Gargiulo was an Italian painter and poster artist. In the 1930s he was commissioned by MGM to do publicity portraits of some of its leading stars.
Gargiulo's art has an extremely personal and recognizable style. The focus of the designer, in fact, falls precisely on faces: there is no setting or scenery; gazes and facial expressions are enough to connote the story. The focus of this artist is on portraits and the plot becomes secondary, preferring a simple and minimal graphic composition.
In this stylistic choice, Gargiulo favors clean, graphic lines and the use of iridescent and bright colors to create luminous effects on the face. The movie stars occupy the space entirely, carving out a space in fanciful spots, clouds, or squares. In some cases, Gargiulo chooses interesting monochrome shades of gray or shades of bronze, giving the characters the noble status of sculpture. Gargiulo's artworks are sculptural portraits.
