Description
Base painting of the vintage movie poster for ''Days of Fury'', a 1973 Italian drama film directed by Antonio Calenda, starring Claudia Cardinale and Oliver Reed. The film explores the tumultuous events of World War II against the backdrop of a passionate and forbidden love affair.
Set in Italy during the Nazi occupation, the story follows the forbidden romance between Carla (played by Claudia Cardinale), a beautiful and headstrong Italian woman, and Captain Lutze (played by Oliver Reed), a German officer stationed in Carla's village. Their love defies the boundaries of war and politics, as they struggle to find solace and connection amidst the chaos and violence of the conflict.
As Carla and Captain Lutze navigate the dangers of their illicit relationship, they must confront the prejudices and suspicions of their fellow villagers, as well as the ever-present threat of reprisals from the occupying German forces. Their love becomes a symbol of hope and resistance in a time of darkness and despair, inspiring those around them to defy oppression and embrace the possibility of a better future.
Claudia Cardinale delivers a powerful and emotive performance as Carla, portraying her character with strength, grace, and vulnerability. Oliver Reed brings intensity and complexity to the role of Captain Lutze, capturing the moral ambiguity and conflicted loyalties of a man torn between duty and desire.
"Days of Fury" is renowned for its gripping narrative, lush cinematography, and evocative score, which combine to create a compelling and immersive cinematic experience. Director Antonio Calenda deftly balances the personal drama of Carla and Captain Lutze's relationship with the larger historical context of the war, offering viewers a poignant and thought-provoking exploration of love, sacrifice, and redemption.
While "Days of Fury" may not be as well-known as some other World War II films, it remains a compelling and emotionally resonant drama that showcases the talents of its two leads and offers a unique perspective on the human cost of war.

About the artist:
MCP is the imprimatur of the graphic design and fine art company from Barcelona, Spain. It was established in the 1930s by Spanish artists Ramon Marti, Josep Clave, and Hernan Pico. It specialized in designing Spanish posters for American and European films until closing in the late 1970s.
The trio of artists and graphic designers MCP has strongly influenced the style of movie posters and the tradition of film imagery in Spain, making their style unmistakable. Despite the natural differences in their workmanship, the MCP fine art company maintains a certain uniformity of intentionality and graphics in the panorama.
The artworks are all characterized by a great compositional clearness: uniform colors, thick and marked lines, and realistic brushstrokes. The space is filled with harmony, ensuring the balance between solids and voids. MCP's posters are, moreover, underlined by a palette of recurrent colors: light blues, greens, yellows, and pastel shades, making them sophisticated and appealing objects.
The three artists came from humble upbringings. Pico, for example, had to support his family from a very young age and later worked as an apprentice wall painter. Having a knack for painting, at age 14, he enrolled at the Escola de Belles Arts in Barcelona. While there, Pico became friends with Clave and Marti, later forming MCP together, an acronym of their surnames. He continued his studies at Barcelona's prestigious Cercle Artistic de Sant Lluc.
Pico taught art between 1970 and 1975 as a professor at the Escola Massana Municipal Center of Art and Design in Barcelona. His paintings are displayed in museums and private collections throughout Spain, Mexico, most other countries in Europe, and the United States.
MCP achieved its highest output of posters between 1945 and 1965, at one time employing Macario Gómez Quibus (nickname "Mac"). Mac later became a renowned independent poster artist.
Some of the well-known films they designed posters for were "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950), "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1953), "The Big Heat" (1953), and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961).
