Base painting for the vintage movie poster ''Chicago'', a silent crime film released in 1927, directed by Frank Urson and produced by Cecil B. DeMille. The film is based on the 1926 play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins, which was inspired by actual events and crimes that occurred in Chicago during the 1920s.
Set in the Jazz Age of the 1920s, "Chicago" follows the story of Roxie Hart, a young woman who dreams of stardom and becomes involved in a scandalous murder case. Played by Phyllis Haver, Roxie is a seductive and ambitious chorus girl who shoots her lover in a fit of rage. She hires a slick lawyer named Billy Flynn, played by Robert Edeson, to defend her and manipulate the media to her advantage.
