"Cabaret" is a 1972 musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse, based on the 1966 Broadway musical of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the 1951 play "I Am a Camera" by John Van Druten and the 1939 novel "Goodbye to Berlin" by Christopher Isherwood. Starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey, the film is set in Berlin during the early 1930s, against the backdrop of the rise of the Nazi Party and the flourishing cabaret scene.
Liza Minnelli stars as Sally Bowles, a vivacious and aspiring American singer who performs at the Kit Kat Klub, a decadent cabaret venue in Berlin. Sally's carefree and hedonistic lifestyle is contrasted with the political turmoil and social unrest unfolding in the city, as the rise of Nazism threatens to engulf Germany in darkness.
