The story revolves around Edmond Dantès, a young and naive sailor who is wrongfully accused of treason and imprisoned in the notorious Château d'If. While in prison, Dantès befriends a fellow inmate who helps him escape and reveals the location of a hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. After acquiring the treasure, Dantès transforms himself into the wealthy and enigmatic Count of Monte Cristo.
